Poor Skip

Skip had a cancerous mast cell tumor removed from his left flank today. Poor guy...he's hurting in a bad way. We've tried to give him all his favorite treats and he just stares back without even moving. Hopefully the tests at least come back that the cancer was removed, but we won't know until next week. Get better Skip!

Got the scoop from the vet...

Good news is that the tests on the margins of the tissue removed were clean (showing no signs of cancerous cells). If the margins would have been dirty, further surgery or radiation would've been required.

The tumor was serious though, they ranked it a grade 2 (1-3) which usually means that more than surgery is required (radiation, chemo, etc). Luckily we caught it quickly as it undoubtedly would've spread farther without intervention. So hopefully his wounds heal up and that's all there is to it. :)

Oh, and he's feeling quite a bit better finally. He's nearly back to his spaz self, especially when visitors come over. The problem is that he's torn out a few stitches with the over excited tail and bucking around. :) Hopefully they hold and we don't need to go back in for more...
